Fabricating debris consists of microscopic fragments or pieces of glass created in the factory when glass is being made. It usually only occurs on tempered glass because the process sends the glass sheet back into a furnace after its been cut. While the glass is being cut, glass dust, and shards end up on the surface. When these debris are not properly removed, they become baked into the surface of the glass. These debris are actually what cause scratches on windows not the razor. During the process, the debris become dislodged and get dragged across the surface causing scratches.
We can tell if a window has fabricating very easily by putting he razor on the glass very gently. If it glides smooth everything is fine, if it feels like sandpaper we will stop immediately. The window will not be scratched by this process. It is only when you push hard and across the glass that it would scratch.
If a window has fabricating debris and needs to be scrapped, the best we can do is use #0000 steel wool and do the best we can. We will not risk damaging the glass.
